Description

This is an original watercolour painting Peaceful, by Jessica Coote. These watercolours are painted on the highest grade of watercolour paper made by Arches with the highest grade of watercolour paints. These paintings are on paper Β 410 x 310mm (16β€³ x 12β€³). All of the watercolour paintings on this website are original paintings, not prints. Therefore, if you choose to make a purchase today, you will be purchasing a painting, not a print. Β They make an excellent and unique gift for a special occasion such as a birthday, wedding anniversary, christening or even Christmas. However, they are also extremely easy to frame and look great when framed and displayed. Because this is a real watercolour painting, please treat it with care – do not leave it exposed to harsh daylight, or it will begin to fade. These are one-off paintings and are not part of a set. There may be multiple studies of a subject but each painting is done as a separate study of the subject and required many sketches and experiments before the final picture is produced. The painting that you see here will be the exact one you receive.

Landscapes of The South Downs National Park

My watercolour paintings are very closely related to my project about The South Downs National Park. Since childhood, I have been inspired by the changing moods of South Downs, and fascinated by the diverse range of flora and fauna which thrive here (including rare birds, snakes and lizards, butterflies and grasshoppers, and many species of fragile native plants). To my delight, on the 12th of November 2009, Hilary Benn (Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) announced that the South Downs has received National Park status, and confirmed its boundary. The South Downs National Park officially came into being on the 31st of March 2010. My project, β€˜Textile Landscapes of The South Downs National Park’, is a celebration of this important event.

As a Brighton Conservation Volunteer, I’m actively involved in many environmental projects throughout Sussex (including coppicing, chalk grassland management, woodland conservation, pondwork, footpath building and maintenance, fencing and meadow management), which allows me to spend lots of time in the countryside studying the landscape in preparation for my next piece of work. I make these watercolour paintings because I love being in these places.
